iMAT is now AU Materials
The official description has changed from research center to cluster. What we do, and why we do it, remains the same. If you are looking for expertise, collaborators, infrastructure, or simply the right person to ask, the cluster connects you to the network at Aarhus University.
iMAT has been more than a name. It still is our community.
A university-wide entry point for materials
Materials research at Aarhus University spans topics from chemistry, physics, biological, electrical and mechanical engineering, dentistry and more. The strength lies in this breadth.
AU Materials brings these environments together and makes them visible. For colleagues across AU, for students, for industry partners, and for external collaborators, we remain a clear and approachable gateway to materials topics and questions. If you are working with materials, or interested in exploring new directions, and need support or simply a place to start, we encourage you to reach out.
The cluster format simply reflects what we already are: an open, interdisciplinary network that evolves with the research landscape.
Continuing our core activities
Our activities continue unchanged:
Seminar Day for PhDs and Postdocs in spring
Each spring, students and postdocs present their work, exchange ideas across disciplines, and build connections early in their careers.
Assistant Professor lunches
Our regular Assistant Professor lunches provide a platform for early-career researchers to exchange experiences and discuss topics they choose themselves. Senior members of the network contribute perspectives and input. The meetings are open and inclusive, also for colleagues outside the cluster.
Annual meeting in summer
Each summer, we bring the full network together to learn, connect, and discuss the direction of AU Materials.
Poster session in autumn
In the autumn, we gather again around posters, discussions, and informal conversations that often spark new collaborations.
PI meeting in winter
In winter, PIs meet to reflect on strategy and collect input from across the network. This ensures that the cluster stays relevant, responsive, and aligned with emerging scientific opportunities.
These activities are not formalities. They are the foundation of how our community is build and how we shape its direction together.
Looking ahead
The transition to AU Materials marks a new organizational chapter, but not a change in spirit. We continue to value openness across disciplines, curiosity-driven research, strong early-career support, and close dialogue with partners beyond the university.
The name has changed.
The spirit remains.
Welcome to AU Materials!
